Release the Work Order

Follow these steps in Enterprise to create an unreleased work order (also sometimes referred to as a production order). You must have an appropriate role to use this functionality.

  1. Navigate to Manufacturing | Transactions | Work Orders
    • If you do not know the WO number, use the filters to isolate it.
    • If the WO is within the default dates, simply click on the blue Refresh button.
  2. Click on the work order number; this takes you to the production order page.

    • Note the Components tab. This will show you any existing sub-items for this manufactured item.
    • Note the Dependent Production Orders tab. You will want to click on this before Releasing your WO.
      • On this tab, any dependent orders will be shown. For example, if you have three component sub-items but do not have enough quantity on-hand to fulfill this, they would show here. They do not have to be work orders, however.
      • Click on Create Dependent Orders to automatically generate appropriate orders.
    • Note the Production Transactions tab. Ignore that for now.
  3. Releasing the order is as simple as clicking Release at the top.

    • You will immediately note that a new option - Create Transfer Order - appears. As the tooltip indicates, this is used if you need to transfer components required for this order from a different location or warehouse to the one where this item is being assembled.
    • You will also note that the Order Status has changed to Released.
